We had two great teams that battled for seven games, and it’s good to be on this side.” The Penguins trailed the series 0-2 but was able to shut down Alex Ovechkin until it was too late for the Capitals and the chased rookie goaltender Simeon Verlamov as they move closer to second straight trip to Stanley Cup Finals. Now as they have entered the Eastern Conference finals, they would probably face Carolina or Boston who would play the deciding game on Thursday.

Though the Penguins tried to stop Ovechkin but he was able to score in the second period for the Washington Capitals. This is his 11th goal and post season he has been rated as the most valuable player in the first NHL player since 1995 with total points of 14 in one series.

The Capitals for now have lost seven straight playoff OT games including the two games to Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series. And a loss in the Game 6 would mean that the capitals would have been eliminated. The Pittsburgh Penguins crushed the Capitals in the deciding game on Wednesday. The Penguins were able to dominate the every facet of the highly anticipated affair and will be now facing the winner of the semi finals of Carolina-Boston series.

Penguins defenseman Mark Eaton said, “You definitely wouldn’t predict a score like this but we’ll take it. It made it a lot less stressful for us throughout the game.” Washington coach Bruce Boudreau said, “It certainly wasn’t the way I would have envisioned it. Whether we won or lost I never would have thought that we would have ended up in a game like it was tonight.” And on Varlamov he said that he was superb in the post season but he really struggled in the series. Boudreau said, “After the third goal I was thinking of pulling him because he looked really dejected. After the fourth goal the wind completely came out of his sails.”
